Martis Valley Lodge, Truckee Tahoe

This project focused on the design and development of a distinctive hospitality property located in the heart of Truckee, California — a historic mountain town at the gateway to the Sierra Nevada. The scope included the creation of a guest experience that seamlessly blends rustic charm with modern design, tailored to reflect the town's adventurous spirit and rich cultural heritage. The property was envisioned to be adaptive and immersive, offering guests a space that feels equally inspiring in the snow-filled depths of winter or the sun-drenched days of summer. Emphasis was placed on seasonality, material authenticity, and a seamless connection to the natural landscape.

Nestled in the rugged beauty of the Sierra Nevada, this Truckee-Tahoe property captures the essence of a true mountain town. Designed to honor the town’s historic roots — once known as Coburn’s Station and a hub of the Central Pacific Railroad — the property embraces the enduring spirit of adventure and exploration. Inspired by Truckee’s evolving landscape, the architecture and interiors respond dynamically to the seasons: warm woods and industrial elements echo the area’s lumber town legacy, while expansive windows and thoughtful detailing draw the outdoors in.
